Habits-mother of destiny

Published on FB

Introduction:

Habit is something which we keep on reflecting in our action & behaviour regularly.

Our action & behaviour is the reflection of our thought process. We all have some good or bad habit. If our thoughts are good, our action & behaviour will be good. If our thoughts are bad our action & behaviour will also become bad. If we keep on using same type of action & behaviour repeatedly, it becomes our habit.

“What we think we become”-Gautam Buddha

Our habits make our character, whether it is good or bad. Gradually it becomes our destiny.

Thoughts>>>>>>>Actions/Behaviour >>>>>>>>>Habits>>>> Character >>>>Destiny

How to nurture good habit:

To create our destiny, we have to control our thought process. We have to understand what is good habit & what is bad habit. For this we have to understand our thought process & control & eliminate our bad thoughts.

To understand & differentiate between good & bad habits, we have to realise our purpose of life & nurture such type of thoughts, which will help us to achieve our purpose of life. Practicing spirituality will help in realising & achieving the purpose of our life. Spirituality helps in eliminating negative & bad thoughts.

Spirituality is nothing to do with the Religion, God or any rituals. It is a way of life to achieve our higher purpose.

Improving our self awareness & aligning our thoughts with the people having the same thought process, reading good books will help us achieving our purpose of life.

Control of mind is required to identify & eliminate the bad habits & nurture only good habits.

There is no challenge more challenging than improving ourselves by inculcating good habits & strengthening our character(our inner beauty).

We have to strive to evolve as a better human being from inside by making our conscience clear.

Examples of good & bad thoughts:

Bad thoughts are anger, selfishness, immoral or wicked behaviour, greed, lust, revengeful, arrogance, injustice, impatience. These attributes are all called vices.

Good thoughts are righteousness, integrity, humility, understanding, caring, supportive, selflessness, helpful, bravery and valor, self-control and restraint, fairness, patience, perseverance, tolerance, love, compassion, respect, trust. These attributes are called virtues.

Mission & Vision statement:

We have to write our mission & vision statement, based on our purpose of life & what we want to become from inside.

Our purpose of life is stated in the mission statement. This is a statement defining how we get to where we want to go.

Vision statement describes where we want to go.

Conclusion: By continuous nurturing of good habits & eliminating bad habits we can create our destiny & gradually evolve as a better human being and a person what we have stated in our mission & vision statement.

  Success with Spiritual attainment

                 Published on-01/03/2013 in www.selfgrowth.com

What is success: It is defined as the achievement of the objective. Different people define their objective differently. Some people set their objective of getting something in the material world, such as acquiring wealth, acquiring a high position & status in the society & so on.
Some people define success by what they can contribute to the society.
If your objective is only to acquire something for yourself such as acquiring wealth, then it will not be regarded as great though you may become successful in achieving your objective.
Take inspiration from the following quote of the celebrated Tamil Poet & philosopher:
“Among the wealthy, compassionate men claim the richest wealth, for material wealth is possessed by even contemptible men.
Find and follow the good path and be ruled by compassion. For if the various ways are examined, compassion will prove the means to liberation.”-----Thiruvalluvar.

How to get success:
a )Define your values & strengthen your character:
In order to get enduring success & happiness in life you have to nurture the attributes like Integrity, patience, perseverance, tolerance, empathy, caring, understanding, supportive, humility, love, compassion. These are the foundation stones for getting true & enduring success.
Nurturing these values will strengthen your character. Your soul will be purified. It will enhance the inner beauty. Your reputation will grow. Your reputation comes from your behaviour & conduct. Your behaviour & conduct is driven by your values, i.e, how do you interpret life, people & the world. It takes long years to earn & build reputation.
According to Great Management Guru Stephen R Covey there are two types of ethics for getting success. One is personality & the other is character. Personality ethics emphasizes more on quick-fix influence techniques such as communication skills, positive attitude etc. But without strengthening your character, if you apply these techniques for getting success, you may get it, but the success will not be enduring.

b) Prepare a mission statement:-
Prepare a mission statement based on your values. Live by those values. Make your daily decisions, judgment & conduct yourself keeping in mind those values.
According to Management Guru Stephen R Covey a personal mission statement is one that focuses what you want to be in terms of character and what you want to do in reference to contribution of achievements. Writing a mission statement can be the most important activity an individual can take to truly lead ones life.
You must have great ideas for getting success. You have to believe in yourself. You have to have passion for what you do based on your values. Keep on doing what you love. Don’t run after success. Success will automatically follow, if your ideals are great.
Great people have great mission in life.
c) Balance the priorities of your life:-You have to play different roles during your life time. You have to cut a balance on family, career, spirituality, love, health, wealth etc. If you don’t set your priorities you may be successful in one area of life & unsuccessful in other areas.
Identify the top priorities in life set your objective & make commitment to achieve those objectives.

d) Follow the life of great people & inspire yourself:-
Success story of Thomas Alva Edision: Thomas Alva Edision failed about 999 times to invent the lamp before he succeed in doing it on the 1000th attempt. When people asked him how did you manage to keep going even though you were failing all the time he replied telling them, each time it didn't work i used to say i discovered a new way of how to not invent the lamp.” Failure is the Pillar of success”, what you can learn from Thomas Edison success story.
Success story of Walt Disney: Walt Disney was fired by a newspaper editor because, "he lacked imagination and had no good ideas." After that, Disney started a number of businesses that didn't last too long and ended with bankruptcy and failure. He kept plugging along, however, and eventually found a recipe for success that worked.

Conclusion: “Success is walking from failure to failure with no loss of enthusiasm.”---- Winston Churchill
You have to have courage to face the hurdles coming on your way to success.
Take inspiration from this great quotes of Hindu Philosopher & Saint Swami Vivekananda.
“In a day when you don’t come across any problem, you can be sure that you are travelling in a wrong path.”---Swami Vivekananda
“ Take up one idea. Make that one idea your life; think of it; dream of it; live on that idea. Let the brain, muscles, nerves, every part of your body be full of that idea, and just leave every other idea alone. This is the way to success...”---Swami Vivekananda.

Most of the Great & successful people are humble & their success is based on their strength of character & high moral values.Ultimate objective of human being should be to enrich soul through spiritual practices.

QUALIFIED vis-a-vis EDUCATED

December 4, 2018

                                                   Qualified vis-à-vis Educated

We normally use the word educated for a person who has acquired some qualification in certain fields or subjects.

In real sense all qualified persons are not educated.

Qualified implies the formal recognition by certain institution that the person has acquired knowledge in certain subjects.

An institution can train a person & give a certificate that the person is qualified in the specified subjects, he was trained in. But it can not certify a person that he is educated.

Education is all about the ethics, morality, values(Sanskar) of a person.

It is about the quality of his thoughts, how he interprets life, people, environment where he lives in & interacts with.

In our society, we have seen highly qualified(having degrees from foreign universities) doctor thrashes & abuses his wife, indulges in the practice of sex determination & abortion of female foetus, compels his wife to abort the female foetus.

Can you say that this person is educated ? His behavior shows his quality of thoughts.

Though he is a highly qualified Doctor, his behavior shows that he is the most uncultured & uneducated person.

Life building ideas:

On the other hand, we have seen a poor widow, having no formal qualification, has built one hospital in her village(where there was no proper medical care facility) & made her son a doctor to serve the villagers selflessly.

Though she has no formal qualification, still she is more educated than the highly qualified doctor.

Education is all about differentiating between right & wrong, logical thinking & arguments. It is learning about the human values, selfless act. True education helps building the character(inner beauty) of a person.

It is said that the bad(uneducated) people use knowledge for arguments, wealth creation, personal pleasure and power to trouble others while the good(educated) people use knowledge to educate, use wealth for charity and powers to protect others.

At the end to understand the meaning of education, we must remember this relevant quote of Swami Vivekananda:

“We must have life building, man making, character making assimilation of ideas. If you have assimilated five ideas and made them your life and character, you have more education than any man who has got by heart a whole library”

Mother Teresa

January 10, 2012
At the end of life we will not be judged by how many diplomas we have received or how much money we have made...
We will be judged by 'I was hungry and you gave me to eat, i was naked and you clothed me, i was homeless and you took me in.---Mother Teresa

Compassion

Be ruled by compassion.

Love

March 14, 2011
Life filled with love is ultimate fulfillment.---Mata Amritanandamayi.

There is love in every one of you. Develop that love. Share it with people. This love is not a one-way traffic. It is two way give & take----Sathya Sai Baba

As one acts and conducts himself, so does he becomes good. The doer of evil becomes evil. One becomes virtuous by virtuous action, bad by bad action.---Upanishads

Why is love so important? -Mata Amritanandamayi

A loving word,a compassionate look, a simple good deed-all these can bring light to the lives of the less fortunate as well as to your own. It is not what you gain, but what you are able to give that determines the value of your life. If you have been able to give happiness to a soul-even for a minute-it makes your life blessed. Love gives everything, there is no thought of receiving . Love has no complaints; it accepts all. Love removes all fears; it transforms all ugliness into beauty. Because it is the real refuge, it is the beauty of life; it makes it ever new and fresh. love is the expression of the self. It is the thread on which all the beings are strung. When love awakens in a person, the divinity in him or her also awakens for love is god; it is the manifestation of the divine.
